MediBa Quartet

MediBa (Mediterranean Balkan) Quartet is a group formed by vocalist Masa Vujadinovic, accordionist Jakob Kobal, cellist Queralt Giralt Soler, and drummer/percussionist Andrea Dionisi, hailing from Montenegro, Slovenia, Catalonia, and Italy, respectively. Their artistic paths crossed at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.

Performing together in various groups and musical settings, the four musicians developed a strong musical affinity and a shared artistic vision that led them to create this new acoustic formation. Despite their different geographical and cultural backgrounds, all four musicians share the experience of having grown up in small towns surrounded by nature and mountains that inspire their artistry.

The quartet’s repertoire includes rearrangements of Balkan and Mediterranean- origin compositions and original pieces, enriched by elements of classical music, jazz improvisation, and other musical styles and traditions. Their unique acoustic instrumentation provides the possibility of various sonic experiences, ranging from the most simple, personal, and silent passages to the more complex, harmonically and rhythmically richer melodies—while keeping the music accessible, emotionally compelling, and engaging for the audience.

MediBa’s goal is to serve the music, innovate within tradition, and make their music an unforgettable experience for as many people as possible. They strive to present their music in a beautifully raw manner, paying homage to the heritage and stunning nature that shaped them into the group they are today.

Barzakh Café also offers a curated selection of small plates and drinks. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, ease into the evening, and enjoy something from the kitchen or bar before the program begins. Happy Hour All Year.
